Veterinary Medicine is constantly changing. Practically every week there are new drugs developed, new techniques perfected, new diseases discovered, and numerous innovations improved upon!
In Order to keep pace with the ever changing developments, veterinarians are challenged to work hard to stay abreast of the latest information.
Weekly our
Hospital receives approximately 2-3 Veterinary Journals containing
case reports, drug trials along with morbidity/mortality reports. There
is "Homework" every night!
With the advent
of the computer, and specifically, the Internet, Veterinarians now have
an even greater access to Educational Resources.
Not only are we able to Email
Colleagues about difficult problems, we also are able to subscribe to special
Veterinary Medical Bulletin Boards. On these boards, Veterinarians can
find information on drugs, diseases, poisons, not to mention tracking down
a colleague that has "disappeared". We also are able to post messages
about unusual cases on which we are working, and have literally thousands
of veterinarians across the country and the WORLD, read that note and respond
with some usual information that will allow us to help that animal. Modern
Technology sure has made communicating much easier. However, there is no
substitute for "Hands on" Practical education....
The
State Boards of Veterinary Medicine recognize the importance of practicing
veterinarians keeping current on the latest developments and to insure
that veterinarians every where are maintaining an acceptable standard,
the boards require each veterinarian to participate in at least 14 hours
of lectures and surgical labs each year. Most Veterinarians meet
and exceed this minimum requirement. These classes are usually held at
Veterinary Colleges around the country and the Veterinarian must pay
for his/her travel and for attending the course. Below you
will see a variety of pictures that were taken while attending Continuing
Education Courses...............
